Without a microchip, the odds of finding your lost pet are minimal. Even if your dog or cat disappears while wearing a collar and tags, that doesn’t mean they’ll still have those tags once they are found. By having your pet chipped, you are providing a permanent form of identification that can be used to reunite you with them if they ever get lost. At Cliftwood Animal Hospital, we perform microchipping in Sandy Springs and strongly recommend this simple procedure for your furry friend.
How It Works
A microchip is a rice-sized pellet with an identification number that most veterinarians and rescue organizations can use to access your pet’s information and your personal contact information.
When you bring your pet in to be chipped, we will use a syringe to inject the chip beneath the surface of their skin between the shoulder blades. It takes mere seconds, and the process is similar to getting a shot. Your dog or cat won’t react to a microchip any more than they react to their vaccinations. There is no need for anesthetic or stitches, and your pet can immediately resume their normal activities upon leaving the clinic.
We use the Save this Life chip, which is an advanced anti-migration chip. Once you sign up, you’ll become a member of a proactive pet recovery network that offers a variety of services, including:
- Lost pet alerts
- Personalized “Lost Pet” posters
- 24/7 emergency medical care
- Pet ID cards
- Lifetime database registration
You can get all of this for your pet for just $52, which includes the cost of annual membership as well as the activation fee. Additional fees may apply for your pet’s appointment.
